Bowmanville slotback newest recruit to join AUS team’s 2014 class.

One interaction during the recruitment process had a significant influence on Idahosa Yorke.

Consequently, the 5’7, 155 pound slotback/kick returner from Bowmanville, Ontario has committed to the Mount Allison Mounties for the 2014 AUS season.

“There were many reasons as to why I committed to Mount Allison,” explained Yorke of his decision.  “Before I came into contact with Coach (Kelly) Jeffrey, I was speaking to several other schools, but the minute I came into contact with him I knew there was something special about him and the school.”

Moreover, the official visit to the school sealed the deal for the Ontario standout.

“Once I visited the school I knew it was the right fit for me, all the guys on the team are some of the nicest guys I have come in contact with,” recalled Yorke.  “Not only are they brothers on the field, but they’re brothers off the field, which I though was really neat.”

“They all welcomed me with open arms like I was already one of their long-time friends and it made me feel right at home.”

Overall, there were many positive aspects of the football program, school and community that tipped the scale towards the Sackville, New Brunswick campus.

“There are several factors as to why I committed to Mount Allison,” said Yorke.  “The school size, the positive environment surrounding the school and the program.”

“The massive amount of support the school and town has for shown for the football team as well as how tightly knit the guys on the team are as they are all there for one another and they treat each other like family.”

Yorke joins the Mounties after capping a successful high school career with St. Stephen Royals of the Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (LOSSAA).  This past season, the slotback led the team to their first senior ‘AAA’ championship title.  For his exceptional play on the field, Yorke was selected as ‘AAA’ League MVP, the first MVP to ever be named from the Royals.

With his commitment to the Mounties, Yorke becomes the first Royals player to commit to a CIS team for the 2014 recruitment season.

Mounties Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey is thrilled to have Yorke as part of the team and looks forward to his presence and contributions in future years.

“Idahosa is a dynamic player who can change the game at any time,” commented Jeffrey.  “He has the ability to beat you inside or outside with his explosiveness.”

“During his campus visit he fit in really well with the team and we could tell he was a Mountie right away.  We are excited to add his playmaking abilities to a veteran group.  The addition of Idahosa gives us another weapon to use in a variety of spots.”
