York grows by three

York adds one out-of-province commit and two Ontario commits to their team.

The York Lions are excited to announce that defensive back Brando Stone from St. Marcellinus Secondary School, defensive end Tevin McCarty from Salisbury High School and receiver Carlos Amaral from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School will be joining the team this season.

Brando Stone

Standing at 6’1, 180lbs, Brando Stone played as a cornerback with the St. Marcellinus Spirit (ROPSSAA). He is from Mississauga, Ontario.

“Brando is a great athlete who is relatively new to the game of football,” said Zak Colangelo, the assistant defensive coach. “He has great size and athleticism that we are looking for at his position and he is a great kid from a great family.”

Tevin McCarty

Tevin McCarty will be exchanging the mountains of Kamloops, BC, for the metropolitan cityscape of Toronto, Ontario. Last season, he was a member of the Kamloops Broncos (CJFL). In 10 games played, he had 15 tackles, one assisted tackle and one special teams tackle. He recorded three sacks, one fumble and one pass defended. He is 6’2, 246lbs and is formerly from Sherwood Park, Alberta, where he played with the Salisbury Sabres (MEHSL).

McCarty has been in the sights of York for some time now. “We have been following him over the years closely,” Colangelo said. “He previously trained with our OC and strength coach in high school. He is a explosive pass rusher off the edge who we think will come in and compete to play.”

Carlos Amaral

Carlos Amaral, who is 6’2, 185lbs, spent his career playing in Guelph Ontario with the Our Lady of Lourdes Crusaders (District 10) and the Waterloo Region Predators. He was named as a 2017 District 10 all-star.

Carlos is an explosive athlete from the Waterloo area. We are excited about his play-making ability with the football in his hands,” Colangelo said. “He is someone who under the development of our REC coach Kameau Peterson could have a great career at this level.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
