X-Men coaches ‘young and full of energy’

StFX adds one provincial commit and two out-of-province commits to their 2019 class.

Eric Neill, a defensive back from the Nepean Eagles (NCAFA), is ready to learn all he can from the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men.

William Chapman, an offensive lineman from Charles P. Allen High School, and Carter Fleming, a defensive lineman from Immaculata High School, will also be joining the X-Men.

Eric Neill

For Eric Neill, becoming an X-Men is a commitment to more than just football. “I chose to commit to StFX because the coaching staff seems to have the right things in mind to not only better me as an athlete but as a student also,” Neill said. He is interested in taking sociology. Afterwards, he would like to become a police officer.

“Plus, the campus size is perfect. I like a small city. It feels more like home to me since I lived in a small city (Trenton, ON) most my life,” Neill added. “The size and location of the school was probably the most appealing things about the school.”

When he spoke further about the coaches, he said, “The coaching staff seems young and full of energy and seem really engaging. Learning from them is going to be a blast. Their energy helps bring fuel to the team.”

Neill has been playing football for the past six years. Standing at 6’0, 186lbs, he has played for both the Gloucester South Raiders (NCAFA) and the Nepean Eagles (NCAFA). In 2014, he was named ‘defensive rookie of the year.’ Two years later he helped the Raiders win an A Cup. He helped the midget Eagles win the 2017 championship as well. Last season he was a defensive MVP. The product of Ottawa, Ontario, also kicks.

When Neill reflected on his career, he thought of Carlos Blizzard. “He was my very first coach who gave me a chance when tryouts were over and was with me pretty much every year after,” he said. “(He was) helping (me) develop as a player and as a student. He always made sure I was doing good enough in school so I could play football at the next level.”

William Chapman

William Chapman is a member of the Charles P. Allen Cheetahs (NSSAFFL). He is from Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Carter Fleming

Carter Fleming is a resident of the nation’s capital. He played with the Immaculata Saints (NCSSA) in high school. He was considered as an ‘x-factor’ on the 2018 Saints. He was a 2nd-team all-city defensive lineman in 2017.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
