WOLFE: So You Wanna Play Quarterback?

Ridervillle.com

Who should play this complex position? Many (including me) feel that quarterback is the most difficult and exhilarating position to play, of any position, in any sport. Furthermore the QB is often times the most important member of the team. A quote by hall of fame coach Bud Grant, perfectly makes the case –

“A great coach needs 3 things; a patient wife, a loyal dog and a great QB. Not necessarily in that order.”

The purpose of this column, is to examine who should aspire to the position; therefore it should be of interest to the athlete, the athlete’s parents as well as coaches.

I write this article assuming that this decision is being made by, or for a high school athlete, perhaps at the JV level. I have broken down the requirements (as I see them) into three categories; intangibles, FBI (football intelligence), and physical qualities.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
