WOLFE: Reflections on elite coaches and teams

As I have previously mentioned, the conversations I had with high school coaches from across the country were extremely interesting and enlightening. These were elite coaches of elite programs discussing their coaching philosophies.

What defines an elite team or program? My perception is as follows – a team that wins most of their games, a team that is at the top or near the top of their conference, in other words they have shown a high level of on field success, and they have had success over a significant time period.

The theme of this article will be to display the similarities between these winning programs. The schools represent provinces spanning from Nova Scotia to British Columbia; they represent a program from a tiny town in New Brunswick as well as a high school in the greater Toronto area.
