Winnipeg recruit ethusiastic about Golden Bears’ potential

Winnipeg linebacker newest recruit to join CWUAA team’s 2015 class.

Luke Sperry’s career aspirations dictated his decision of where to embark on his CIS gridiron career.

Recently, the 6’3, 210 pound linebacker (outside) from Winnipeg, Manitoba signed with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.  Sperry will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

“As an aspiring engineer, my choice to go to University of Alberta was heavily influenced by the school’s renowned engineering program and the football program’s integrated support for engineering students and academics in general,” elaborated Sperry of his commitment.  “Overall, Coach [Chris] Morris’ emphasis on academics was what really “sold” the program for me.”

“Football-wise, the program has been completely rebuilt. For me, the opportunity to be a part of a rising program with such potential is incredibly exciting.”

Sperry capped off a successful stint with the St. Paul’s Crusaders of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) as he became the recipient of the Harry Hood Memorial Award.  It is given to a player that best exemplifies football ability, academic ability, and school citizenship.
