The Bombersā€™ quarterback situation was the big story heading into the game. Buck Pierce was sidelined with a knee injury last week in Hamilton and was forced to miss Saturdayā€™s game. Steven Jyles seemed to have no problem stepping in as Pierceā€™s replacement.

The Bombers began the game in style. Moton Hopkins gave the Bombers some early momentum when he intercepted a Ricky Ray pass attempt and ran it back 36 yards for the touchdown. With a conceded safety and a Fred Reid touchdown on the next two drives, the Bombers held a 16-0 lead after first quarter.

The Bomber offense did not hesitate to add to the wide margin in the second quarter as Steven Jyles threw his first touchdown pass of the season to Terrence Jeffers-Harris. Jylesā€™ throw was followed by a superb running effort by Jeffers-Harris to sprint in for the 46-yard score.

The second quarter however ended on a sour note for the Bombers as Ricky Ray threw 15 yards to Jason Barnes for a late Edmonton touchdown.

Besides two touchdown passes, Ray did not fare well on this particular evening. He was simply outplayed by Jyles who completed 14 of 22 passes and threw for 267 yards. Ray was under siege all game, being sacked four times and throwing two interceptions. He was replaced by Jason Maas in the fourth quarter.

The Bombers took a 23-7 lead into the second half, a lead that they would not relinquish. Steven Jyles scored two rushing touchdowns and Jovon Johnson returned a Noel Prefontaine punt for a touchdown to solidify a 47-21 Blue Bomber win.

The Bombersā€™ consistent aerial attack and solid ground game was too overwhelming for the Eskimo defense. Reid and Jyles rushed for a combined 132 yards while Jeffers-Harris led both receiving corps with 97 yards and one touchdown. The Bomber defense complimented their offense quite well, shutting down whatever Ricky Ray and company had to offer.

With the loss, the Eskimos fall to 0-4 on the season, theyā€™re worst start in 45 years. The Bombers on the other hand improve to 2-2 with a game against the Calgary Stampeders on the horizon. That game is next Saturday at McMahon Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
