Winning start (SUMMARY)

CJFL/OFC:  AKO starts season on winning note by defeating Beefeaters in first game of season.

Saturday night in London, the AKO Fratmen walked into the defending champions stadium and dominated defensively for four quarters.

As a result, the team defeated the London Beefeaters 24-7 to earn a victory in their first game of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) regular season.

The defense was led by linebacker Mason Beekhuis (Sandwich High School – 14.5 defensive  points) and first year Fratmen defensive back Hunter Mina (Thunder Bay – 13 defensive points). Beekhuis set the tone early with a number of thunderous hits, and the defense allowed only eight rushing yards and six first downs total.

Rookie quarterback Austin Lumley (Herman High School) started for the team, scoring his first touchdown as a Fratmen connecting with Shayne Rice for a second quarter score and later ran in a three yard touchdown to put the Fratmen up 21-7.

Lumley finished with 271 yards through the air as well as 40 yards on the ground. Running back Brad Marsden led all rushers with 74 yards rushing on 16 carries.
