Windsor & St. Mary’s add to coaching staffs

The Windsor Lancers and St. Mary’s Huskies added to their coaching staffs this week. Windsor interim head coach Joe D’Amore added some local talent to solidify the defensive side of the ball. St Mary’s head coach Steve Sumarah replaced defensive and special teams coordinators.

Windsor:

Jim MacDougall has been named defensive coordinator and linebacker coach, Joe Brannagan as defensive backs coach, and Selwyn Jordan (Chatham-Kent Cougars president) as defensive line coach, Chris Church as offensive line coach and Jason McKibbin as running backs coach. Jon Dent returns as offensive coordinatro.

D’amore told the Windsor star: ā€œI want this program to be a community program. I want to get as many people involved as possible. Our high school program is one of the best in Ontario. Weā€™ve proven that with Herman and the Essex Ravens and thatā€™s the result of their coaching. I want those guys involved.ā€
Saint Mary’s:

Steve Sumurah hired from within, naming former Ottawa Gee Gee player and Gee Gee and Huskie coach Devin Murphy (picture) as defensive coordinator. He also brought back former Huskie coach Pierre Lefebvre to do the special teams and coordinate recruiting. Lefebvre started ooaching with the Huskies in 1976 and was last with the team in 2005. Sumarah also added Todd Galloway as receivers coach and ex-SMU linebacker Ryan King as linebackers coach.

Sumarah told Monty Mosher about Murphy: “I believe he is one of the up-and-coming coaches around here and I think he just needed an opportunity. Iā€™m excited heā€™s going to be with us because heā€™s a hard-working guy and very knowledgeable.”

Sumarah commented on Lefebvre: “We needed someone to handle special teams and recruiting and his pedigree in those two areas was as high as anybody and it made the most sense for us to do that. Heā€™s a Saint Maryā€™s guy and heā€™s been around the game a long time and weā€™re excited to have him back.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
