WHERE ARE THEY NOW: From IMG Academy to StFX, CFC100 Forde says, “it was a great decision”

2014 was the first year that canadafootballchat.com (CFC) put out a top prospects list; the CFC100.

With this upcoming year, many of these players are entering their fourth year of their collegial football career. We thought it would be fun to see where these players are at now and get some insight as to how their football experience has been to date, what kind of advice they would give to incoming recruits, and give them a chance to acknowledge any coaches or support people that have helped them along the way.

For defensive end, Kyle Forde, he found his spot with the StFX X-men and never looked back. The 6’0, 248-pound lineman is originally from Toronto, Ontario, but played down south at IMG Academy before becoming an X-Men. He was on CFC’s 2014 final edition of the CFC100 top prospects list.

My football experience has been extremely up and down but I loved every minute of it, from playing in the states at IMG Academy to where I am now at STFX,” he comments.

Having started all 24 games as a freshman, including playoff and exhibition games, Forde has racked up some impressive stats. Career wise he has 50 tackles, 35 assisted tackles, 67.5 total tackles, 17 sacks, 25.5 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery, and 7 pass breakups.

It hasn’t all been about the numbers though, as Forde says that football is a huge part of his life and he doesn’t know what he would do without it. He says that, looking back, if he could tell the incoming recruits heading into their senior high school season and are starting to narrow down their future school of choice, he would tell them to do their research.

Look at the team’s current situation, look at their positional needs and see where you will get the best opportunity to play as soon as possible,” he says. “As well as your program and what you want to study, we’re student athletes, but the student part comes first.”

He goes on to say that he had to be aware of what each school was offering financially and that whichever school could support him the most financially through bursaries and scholarships, that school went to the top his list.

Looking forward, with three years under his belt of a Bachelor of Arts degree, Forde has had many people along the way work to develop him and put him in the place he now is.

First off, of course, you have to give glory to the most high. God is good and has blessed me with so many opportunities in football,” he exclaimed when we asked him if he wanted to thank anyone in particular with his success.

My mom is my rock and she’s my motivation to keep pushing myself, she’s the strongest person I have ever met,” he adds.  “And just the whole STFX coaching staff along with the players. When I was younger, I never thought I would be at a school like StFX, but now I can proudly say it was a great decision and I have learned and matured so much from being there.”
