Western ‘winning team’ for CFC 100 recruit

CEGEP running back becomes fifth CFC 100 to join OUA team’s 2015 class.

This past weekend, Western Mustangs continued to reap the rewards of their recruitment efforts in the Quebec region. The team announced that CFC 100 Anthony Joyal has joined their football program.

Joyal, the 5’11, 205 pound running back from Sherbrooke, Quebec, will join the team for the 2015 OUA season. He recently completed a stint with CEGEP Division 1 team, Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars.

“We’re very excited to welcome Anthony Joyal to our football team,” commented Mustangs Head Coach Greg Marshall.  “Anthony is a powerful runner and brings something different to our backfield.”

“He’s a hard runner and also an excellent blocker.”

For some time, the team felt that the CFC 100 running back fit the mould of a prototypical Mustang player.

“We had a great visit with Anthony and his family; it was clear from the moment he stepped on campus that he would be a great fit in our program,” elaborated Mustangs Special Team’s Coordinator Chris Marcus.

Overall, Joyal was impressed with how the Mustangs looked after their players on and off the field.

“At Western, players are treated like professionals and the facilities that they have is amazing,” explained the CFC 100 recruit of his decision.  “Coaches consider every one of their players like part of their family and the team spirit is everywhere.”

“The support that is available for the player is also extremely good, academically as well as football wise.”

Furthermore, the presence of other former CEGEP standouts on the Mustangs roster also played a significant role in his decision.

“Also, Western is a winning team and the fact that there was already players from Quebec playing for the Mustangs that I used to play with and against like Philippe Dion, Jean-Gabriel Poulin, Lloyd Bureau, etc… helped me with making my decision clearer because of their experience in the program,” added Joyal.

With his commitment, Joyal becomes the fifth CFC 100 to join the Mustangs.  The other CFC 100 committed recruits include wide receiver Brett Ellerman as well as Offensive linemen Dylan Giffen and Nicholas Pinelli.   Moreover, he will be reunited with former Cougars teammate and recent Mustangs commit, CFC 100 running back Cedric Joseph.

Ultimately, the Mustangs are thrilled to welcome a player of Joyal’s calibre into the fold as he possesses intangibles which are an asset to the OUA team.

“Anthony has a tremendous work ethic and is a high character person,” expressed Mustangs Recruiting Coordinator Tom Flaxman.  “We’re very excited to welcome Anthony to the Mustang Family.”
