WECSSAA Players of the Week – Week 6

#2 – QB – Andrew Valle – Cardinal Carter Cougars

QB Andrew Valle (Gr.12) led a determined Cougar’s attack in a  huge 24-7 win over their division rivals thee Belle River Nobles. Valle was 17 of 26 passing for 262 yards and 3 TDs. Head Coach Chris Church on Valle’s performance, “it was less than ideal conditions for passing the ball, but Valle continually hit his open receivers all over the field. Andrew has one of the higher football IQ’s, makes great decisions on and off the field, and is a fantastic leader for our football team.” Church on his team advancing to the Newman Conference playoffs, “It’s an exciting time for our football program. For a school of 600 kids to reach the Newman playoffs two years in a row is an amazing accomplishment and directly attributed to the hard work of our players and coaches.” This week the Cougars (5-1) will host the Villanova Wildcats (4-2) on Friday at 3pm.

#28 – RB – Khaliel James – Catholic Central Comets

CFC TOP 100 Khaliel James (Gr. 12) had a great night rushing the football in a 47-7 win over the Essex Red Raiders (1-5) at Windsor Stadium. Khaliel rushed for 173 yards and scored 4 TDs in just 3 quarters of action. Head Coach Jalil Khoury on Khaliel’s huge performance, “he was a dominating force that took over the game. His play was inspired by his unwillingness to be stopped.” On the upcoming game against Sandwich and it’s impact on the final standings, Khoury had this to say, “we have to go out and play Sandwich before thinking about the Newman or Wilson playoffs. We can only control what the we do, and that’s what will motivate the team this week.” The Comets (4-2) will look to secure a spot in the Newman Conference playoffs when they play the Sandwich Sabres (2-4) at 5pm at Vista Academy on Thursday.

Perisic had 14 rushes for 98 yards and a TD (and 2-pt convert) as well as going 10 of 18 passing for 232 yards and 2 TDs. Even in the most strenuous conditions he always leads and never tires.” Fuerth on the Lasers’ ability to compete for the Wilson Conference Championship, “our record is no indication of our abilities. We have the ability, but so does everyone else. So execution and a bit of luck could go a long way in the playoffs.” In a game with playoff seeding implications, the Lasers (1-5) will host the Brennan Cardinals (2-4) on Friday at 3pm .
