WATCH RICKY FOLEY ON NFL.COM’S “ON THE FRINGE”

Former York University Lions football player Ricky Foley is spending his summer vying for a roster spot with the National Football League’s Seattle Seahawks.

His progress is being closely watched by NFL.com’s “On the Fringe” for a special online series. To follow Foley as he works toward his goal of making it to the NFL, check out [url]http://onthefringe.nfl.com/.

“On the Fringe” is profiling five players over the next few months as they compete for a roster spot in the NFL. Fans can follow along as these men – Foley, Alex Boone, Cody Grimm, Gary Banks and LaGarrette Blount – share their stories, their progress and their setbacks.

During his time at York, Foley was named a CIS second-team all-Canadian in 2004 after leading the CIS in sacks with nine. He was also a two-time OUA first-team all-star in 2004 and 2005, and York’s male athlete of the year for the 2005-06 season. He was a versatile athlete, playing five different positions for York, and as a member of the track and field team he broke a 27-year-old school record in the shot put and was at one time ranked fifth in the country.

His selection as the fourth overall pick in the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft made him the second-highest pick in York history behind Trevor Williams, who was chosen third by Winnipeg in 1984 as a defensive back.

Last year, Foley played for the B.C. Lions in the CFL and was named the most outstanding Canadian after leading the league in sacks with 12.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
