VI Raiders Expand Coaching Staff

The Vancouver Island Raiders are pleased to announce the addition of two coaches to the organization. One will be getting his first crack at coaching at the junior level, while the other boasts a pair of Canadian Bowl rings as a coach.

Beau Mirau joins the Raiders as a quarterback coach, and run game specialist. Mirau spent the last 2 seasons as the offensive coordinator at York University. Mirau is no stranger to the junior ranks however, spending 7 season with the Edmonton Huskies. Mirau captured a pair on Canadian Bowl titles in 2004 and 2005, and served as the teams head coach for his final two seasons in the city of champions. Raiders head coach Matthew Blokker says Mirau’s experience is a welcome addition. “Not only does he bring CIS experience, but he also knows what junior football is all about, even as a head coach,” said Blokker. “Beau will have a ton of experience to share with our young quarterbacks, so I’m excited.”

Jonathon Scratch will be the teams new running back coach for the 2010 season. Scratch is a Raider alumni, joining the team in their inaugural season. Scratch finished his 5 year CJFL career as a Raider in 2007, with 3 BCFC titles, and a Canadian Bowl victory under his belt. The 25 year old has spent the last 4 years coaching in Alberta at the midget rank for the aptly named Northern Raiders. Blokker says Scratch will fit in nicely in Nanaimo. “We’ve never actually had a full time running back coach, and with a huge crop of young talent coming in, this really fills a hole for us,” says Blokker. Scratch will also be finishing his degree in Education at Vancouver Island University through the Raiders scholarship program.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
