Vert & Or add size to D-Line with recent commit

Sherbrooke brings in a Québec commit to their Class of 2017.

When David Couture, a defensive end from Cégep Beauce-Appalaches, first met with the Vert & Or, he noticed two things. First, he felt a sense of belonging. Second, he felt he had a chance to grow both on and off the field.

“The family feeling is strong there. As soon as I entered the locker room, it felt like home,” he said. “The players and coaches made me feel very great. They are giving me a great opportunity to develop and their values are similar to mine.”

The towering 6’7, 220lbs nine-year veteran added that he thinks the coaching are doing a good job with the team. He said they are professional and that they know there they want the team to go. “I like the energy (head coach) Mathieu Lecompte brings. The coaches know what they have to offer,” Couture said. “Never in the recruitment process (did) they talk about other teams who were recruiting me. They made me no promises, so I know what I have to do to earn my sport.”

Couture, who is interested in pursuing Physical Activity Science relating to sports training, spent his cégep career with Les Condors du Cégep Beauce-Appalaches (RSEQ Division 2). He also played high school ball at l’École secondaire de Saint-Charles (RSEQ). In 2015-2016, he was named male athlete of the year for Les Condors. He is originally from Saint-Gervais de Bellechasse, Québec, which is south-east of Québec City.

Driven by determination to make his mark, Couture has some people he credits for helping him get this far. “Thanks to all my past football coaches, friends and family that made me who I am,” he said. “(And) thanks to the Vert & Or organisation to have faith in me!”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
