Versatile running back commits to Carabins

Carabins add another local commit to their team.

Reda Malki, a running back from Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, will be heading back across the St. Lawrence after committing to the Montréal Carabins.

Malki currently plays for Les Lynx du Cégep Édouard-Montpetit (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec Division 2). He also plays as a slot back and stands at 5’11, 205lbs. Coming from Longueuil, Québec, he won’t have far to go to get to the University of Montréal campus. He is originally from Montréal.

“I think he is an interesting running back. I think he is one that probably went under the radar I think he is a back that can be multi-dimension in terms of running the football, catching the ball, coming out of the back field,” Carabins head coach Danny Maciocia said of his new commit.

“He has shown an ability to block and that is the kind of back that we think can help us in the upcoming years and can be successful in the position that he occupies. He seems to be a great locker room kid who gets along with everybody. These are all traits that we are looking for,” he added.

Malki was part of the Class of 2016, however he decided to return for another year of school. The Carabins continued to pursue him. “We had the opportunity to sit down and discuss his academic portfolio, what he wanted to study in and how we would go about getting him into the program of his choice,” Maciocia said of the recruitment process.

“I think at the end of the day, he felt pretty good at the academic picture and pretty good about the family atmosphere that we have been able to provide here over the past few years,” he added.
