Varsity Blues add two transfers to class of 2011

McMaster Marauders transfer Farhad Gadjyv and McMaster / Guelph transfer Brandon Rynka have made known their intent to play football and study at the University of Toronto in the fall of 2011.

ā€œFarhad and Brandon are sure to contribute on the defensive side of the ball,ā€ said Varsity Blues head coach Greg DeLaval. ā€œComing from McMaster, they will already be used to our calibre of play in the OUA and will be ready to step in and compete for starting positions this fall.ā€

Gadjyev is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker and graduate of Northern Secondary School, where he was named the defensive most valuable player four times while winning three Toronto District School Board (TDSB) championships. On the OVFLā€™s Metro Toronto Wildcats, Gadjyev was named the teamā€™s most valuable player in 2009.

Rynka comes from Burlingtonā€™s Nelson High School, where he captained the team and earned the Iron Man award in his final year. In 2009 he was a member of the McMaster Mauraders then transferred to Guelph. He was also a member of the Burlington Braves in 2010. Rynka was ranked among Weir magazineā€™s top 15 safeties in Ontario heading into the 2008 season.

Renfrew, Ont., native Matthew Sharpe looks to be the third in his family to crack the Varsity Blues roster. His brothers, Ben and Willie, are third- and fifth-year members of the football program. While Willie has shone in Torontoā€™s secondary, and Ben has been a top receiver, brother Matthew will try his hand at cracking the line up as a running back. Sharpe was named the most valuable player at Renfrew Collegiate in 2010.

Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
