Quarterback Tivon Cook of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 30, 2016.

A fifth-year arts student from Scarborough, Ont., Cook broke several StFX school records this past weekend in the X-Men’s 65-17 win over Mount Allison. His six touchdown passes tied a StFX record for the most in a game as he went 22 for 27.

He broke the X-Men record for most passing yards in a single season (2,537), most career passing attempts (871), most career passing completions (536) and most career passing yards (6,943).

Cook led the Atlantic conference in all passing categories this season, including completions (174), attempts (251), average (317.1), total yards (2,537) and touchdowns (21).

He now sits second in AUS all-time record book for most passing touchdowns in a single game, most passing yards in a single season, most career passing attempts, most career passing completions and third in most career passing yards.

Defensive lineman Adam Melanson of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport football defensive player of the week.

A fourth-year arts student from Kentville, N.S., Melanson had seven total tackles (six solo and two assisted) in Acadia’s 10-3 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies Saturday in Halifax. These included one sack for a loss of a yard. Melanson finished the regular season with the second most sacks in the conference, managing 6.5 this season.

With the win, the Axemen advanced to the Subway AUS Football Semifinal being hosted by Mount Allison Nov. 5 in Sackville, N.B.


Special Teams Player of the Week

Name: Mike Miller
University: St. Francis Xavier University
Position: Defensive back
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Second
Academic program: Engineering
Height and weight: 6’0”, 195lbs

Defensive back Mike Miller of the StFX X-Men has been named the AUS football special teams player of the week.

A second-year arts student from Ottawa, Ont., Miller played a very strong game on both special teams coverage and return teams coverage in the X-Men’s 65-17 win over Mount Allison on Saturday.

His tenacious tackling and relentless blocking resulted in five solo tackles in the game and one assisted tackle. Mike closed out the AUS season with 29 total tackles (25 solo and eight assisted), averaging 3.6 tackles per game.
