U Sports Players of the week (11): Joseph, Cromer- Émond, Dufour honoured

TORONTO (U Sports) – Western running back Cedric Joseph, Montreal linebacker Alex Cromer- Émond and Laval returner Antony Dufour are the U Sports football players of the week for the period ending Nov. 6, 2016. 

Joseph, a second-year student from Montreal, Que., had 16 carries for 107 yards and four touchdowns in Western’s 51-24 win over the Carleton Ravens in the OUA semi-finals. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry, with his longest scoring run being a 23-yard finish for the last scoring play of the game.

Mount Allison running back Chris Reid, Calgary’s receiver Austen Hartley, and receiver Marc-Antoine Pivin from Laval were also nominated.

Cromer- Émond, a fourth-year medical student from Price, Que., had a solid game defensively for the Carabins, forcing the McGill Redmen to turn the ball over three of their four times in the game. In addition, Cromer- Émond had two interceptions and 3.5 tackles, two if which were solo.

Calgary’s defensive lineman Connor McGough, Western’s Mackenzie Ferguson and Mount Allison defensive back Devante Sampson were the others nominated for the award.

Dufour, a fourth-year student from Quebec City had a dramatic impact on the game against Concordia. After falling behind 7-3 early, Dufour had an amazing kick return, running 101-yards for the touchdown. From then, the Rouge et Or never looked back, taking the game 39-14. Dufour finished the game with 120 total yards on two kickoff returns and a punt.

Kick returners Denzel Radford from Calgary, and Mount Allison’s Idahosa Yorke are joined by Laurier defensive lineman Robbie Smith, as the other nominees.
