Two (2) One-Year Limited-Term Ancillary Academic Staff Positions (AAS I) Assistant Football Coach – Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator

The University of Windsor’s Division of Athletics and Recreational Services invites applications for two One-Year Limited-Term Ancillary Academic Staff positions (AAS I) – Assistant Football Coach – Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator, commencing January 15, 2017. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the incumbent is responsible to assist in the coaching, planning and implementation of the Football program at the University of Windsor. This position also requires collaboration with other members of the Division of Athletics and Recreational Services and various units on campus in order to support the efforts of the program’s student-athletes. Key coaching responsibilities are assigned by the Head Football Coach and include: team selection, tactical and technical preparation, practice planning, scouting, game film analysis, individual skill development, etc. The incumbent is directly responsible for coordinating the team defense/offense, overseeing the defensive/offensive assistant coaching staff, evaluating the defensive/offensive team performance and directing the defense/offense during competition; assisting in the development and implementation of a national recruiting plan and plays a key role in recruiting student-athletes to the University of Windsor. The incumbent will provide administrative support for the football program including attending and conducting meetings, helping coordinate community initiatives, camps, clinics, etc., develop strategies to engage Lancer football alumni, supporters and donors and enhance fundraising efforts for the football team. In collaboration with the Associate Director and the Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator, the incumbent will contribute to the development and implementation of a promotion plan for the football season including: strategies for marketing, alumni awareness, student engagement and generating revenue in support of the team and work in conjunction with other members of Athletics and Recreational Services to support overall athlete performance, including skill development, strength and conditioning, and academic support programs.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Physical Education, Kinesiology or Sport Management and a minimum three years coaching football at a collegiate/elite level; a Master’s degree is preferred. The candidate must have NCCP Level II certification or equivalent. Full technical knowledge of, and a demonstrated ability to analyze, all aspects of football, experience dealing with and developing high performance athletes in a university environment and the ability to maintain tact and composure in a highly competitive environment is essential. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills; instructional, coaching and motivating skills, influencing and team building skills, good written communication skills and established recruiting networks and proficiency in computer software applications, including all Microsoft programs is required.

The successful candidate is expected to make decisions and/or recommendations in a supportive capacity to the Head Football Coach and Football program in the areas of: athlete identification, recruitment, awards, selection, playing time; development of team tactics, strategies, practices and competition schedules; setting and monitoring team goals, expectations, conduct, discipline; selection and directing coaching and team support staff; public and media relations with respect to information to the program; and make recommendations on sport promotion plans for the program.
