Transfer wants to lead SMU’s reversal of fortunes

AUS team adds Bishop’s tansfer

The Saint Mary’s Huskies have announced that Michael Carter has joined the football program.

Carter, the 6’1, 225 pound linebacker from Toronto, Ontario is a CIS transfer as he recently suited up for RSEQ team, Bishop’s Gaiters.

In addition to the Gaiters, he has previously played for CEGEP Division 2 team John Abbott Islanders and Halton Cowboys of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

“We are extremely happy to have Michael join our football family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

Ultimately, Carter chose the Huskies because of the respect he has for Marchese and the team.   Not only would he like to help the Huskies turn their fortunes around on the field, the linebacker wants to help fill the void that will be there as a result of losses on the team’s defensive unit.

“I think Coach Perry is a great coach and person,” expressed Carter.  “I know last year was tough for the Huskies, but I know special things are in the future for this program and school, especially with Coach Perry as the man.”

“I have a few teammates from John Abbott that go there so that too played a big factor. My main goal is to be a national champion, and I think Saint Mary’s gives me the best chance in doing that. I’m also excited to see how they use me, obviously the best defensive talent in the country just recently left, and there are big shoes to fill. I feel like I can come in right away and contribute on defence and make them feared in the AUS.”
