Three Canadians Excelling In The NFL This Season

There is a long list of Canadians who have traveled south to, not only play in the NFL, but have a lot of success in one of the biggest sports leagues anywhere in the world.

The 2019 NFL season is reaching its climax over the next few weeks and once again there have been a number of players who have been flying the flag for Canada. Here is a look at the pick of those three Canadians who have made their mark this year.

Nā€™Keal Harry (New England Patriots)

Toronto-born wide-receiver Nā€™Keal Harry was taken in the first-round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots who saw the 21-year-old as their number one target back in April. Harry has been fortunate to be working with arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time in Tom Brady this year, while he has had the six-time Super Bowl winner Bill Belichick as his head coach.

The former Arizona State player recently picked up his first receiving touchdown in his sideā€™s 13-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at the Gillette Stadium. Harry will be hoping he can get more receptions at the back end of the regular season and help his side win the Vince Lombardi trophy for the third time in the last four years. The Patriots are +400 in the NFL betting for the Super Bowl which is set to be played in Miami on February 2.

Luke Willson (Seattle Seahawks)

Since being selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Canadian Luke Willson has been a regular at the end position in Pete Carrollā€™s side. He moved to the Detroit Lions in 2018 but returned to the Seahawks at the start of this year and it is like he has never been away as he has immediately slotted back into the NFC West side who are having a great season and look set for an appearance in the playoffs. The 2014 Super Bowl champion had the best year of his career in the NFL in 2017 where he recorded four touchdowns. He has had eight receptions in 2019 for 79 yards, averaging 9.9 yards per catch.

Brent Urban (Chicago Bears)

It has been a busy year for defensive end Brent Urban as he started the season with the Tennessee Titans but signed for the Chicago Bears in October. The Mississauga-born player is now playing for one of the best defenses in the league as the Bears excel on that side of the ball. Urban has had 11 tackles this season, four came in one game against the Detroit Lions when playing for the Titans, while he also had two tackles against the Lions when suited up for the Bears in the recent 24-20 victory over their divisional rivals. The 28-year-old will be hoping he can play his role in continuing Chicagoā€™s great tradition of having an excellent defense and keep their hopes alive of reaching the postseason.

With many American football players from Canada having a great year in college football in 2019, expect to see more Canadians in the NFL in 2020.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
