Team Canada ‘day 4’ training camp: Players survive ‘hump day’ of Canadian training camp

The Men’s Senior National team continues its preparation for the World Championships, practicing in London, Ontario before they depart for Austria Saturday morning. After not being able to land either defensive end they had on their 75-man roster (one was unavailable and the other was on a CFL PR and could play this week), the Team Canada coaches added mobile QB Donnie Marshall to complete the roster. Adding a 3rd ‘mobile’ QB is actually a trend that has taken place at Canada’s national U18 championship, the Football Canada Cup. This year half of the teams have 3 QBs on the roster as opposed to 2 that most ‘regular’ football teams would carry. Here are some notes from day 4 of training camp:

Saskatchewan Huskie / Saskatoon Hilltop Brian Guebert continues to nurse a calf injury which is expected to be okay

with such an elite group of players the coaches have had to ‘adjust’ their coaching, ramping it up a level or two

players were tired and it showed on day 4

also, with such an elite group of players not many players ‘stand out’ among the group

Team Canada’s second opponent, Austria, went in to Overtime versus a division 3 NCAA school in a recent exhibition game

Team USA, the defending champions, have 3 CIS current/former players on the roster: Da’Shawn Thomas (UWO), Micah Brown (SMU), Brandon Jordan (SMU)

With American Da’Shawn Thomas, the number of current or former Western Mustangs participating in the tournament is 8
