Team BC announces roster, plays Ontario east in opener

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Football BC announced today the list of 40 players that have been offered a roster spot on the provincial under-18 team (Team BC) that will represent British Columbia at the 2010 Football Canada Cup to be held at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia from July 10 – 17, 2010.

The Terry Fox Ravens have the most representation on Team BC placing seven players on the roster followed by the WJ Mouat Hawks with six. The 2009 Senior Varsity AA Champions Mount Douglas Rams placed four players on the main roster. The complete 40-player roster can be found below.

The selection process began in April with over 200 players from around the province attending one of four identification camps and 97 of those players being invited to a training camp at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. that took place from May 22-24, 2010.

“I would like to thank all the young athletes who came and tried out for a spot on Team BC and for the passion and dedication they showed all throughout the selection process,” said Team BC General Manager Larry Reda. “The 40 players selected by our coaching staff represent who we feel will give Team BC the best opportunity to compete against the top under-18 football players from across Canada.”

Football BC also announced a list of three players selected to the Team BC ‘taxi squad’ that will be extended an invitation to the pre-tournament camp alongside the main roster. The pretournament camp takes place on July 7 and 8, 2010 at Simon Fraser University with practice sessions at 7:30-9:30 a.m. PT and 4:00-6:00 p.m. PT each day. The team will depart for Nova Scotia on July 9, 2010. The ‘taxi squad’ players are eligible to serve as replacements should a member of the 40-player roster withdraw due to injury or other extenuating circumstances. ‘Taxi squad’ players will not travel with the team to the tournament unless they have been confirmed as a replacement prior to the team’s departure.

Team BC will play their tournament opening game on Sunday, July 11, 2010 versus Ontario East at 3:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. local time in Nova Scotia).
