Syracuse sign CFC60 Matthew Bergeron

Make it two CFC60s for the Syracuse Orange. They made their first big splash with the commitment of CFC60 top ranked Geoffrey Cantin-Arku, and they were eager for some more Quebec talent after laying eyes for the first time on Matthew Bergeron. According to Cuse Nation, he wasn’t even on their radar before attending the Orange camp back in June, but they were quick to offer the big man once they saw him go to work, and he rewarded them with a quick commit. It probably helped that they already had Cantin-Arku on board, plus they’ve put a real emphasis on their Canadian recruiting last couple years signing CFC100s Tyrell Richards and Patrick Davis.

NCAA EARLY SIGNING DAY TRACKER

Bergeron says he spoke with Cantin-Arku before the initial announcement, and says it was helpful having somebody else from Quebec already on board,

“I talked with Geoff and we motivated each other. So for sure through the process it helps having someone from your culture.”

Bergeron spent his CEGEP career at Thetford, who finished the season 3-5 playing in DII. Syracuse were the only NCAA to make a move, but he couldn’t have asked for a better time to join Orange nation with the program coming off their best season since 2001 at 9-3, and a berth in the Camping World Bowl against West Virginia.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
