StFX commits ready to improve under coaches

StFX adds one provincial and one out-of-province commit to their 2018 class.

Offensive lineman Daniel Petrie from Sydney Academy and Tyler Ridsdale from St. Theresa’s High School come from different provinces, but soon they will be waging war in the trenches together on the St. Francis Xavier X-Men.

Daniel Petri felt no need to stray far from his hometown. “I chose StFX because of the school’s atmosphere and because (it is) still not too far from home,” he said. “I think the coaching staff at St FX really know their stuff and are great coaches.”

Petri spent three years playing with the Sydney Academy Wildcats (NSSAFF) in his hometown of Sydney, Nova Scotia. In 2015 and 2017, he was a Division 1 2nd-team all-star. The 6’0, 285lbs guard will be taking business.

When Tyler Ridsdale visited StFX, they welcomed him with open arms. “I chose to commit to StFX because I love the atmosphere and really feel like apart of the family. They make you feel included and welcome…it was also nice to know that I have a teammate who will be going out (there) with me,” he said.

Always seeking to improve, Ridsdale is confident the coaches will help bring him to the next level. “They want to help you make you the best you can be,” he said. “They made me feel like they could help me enhance my play and make an impact on this team as well as bring home championships.”

Ridsdale may live in a town called Tiny, Ontario, but he is by no means small in stature. The 6’0, 310lbs lineman spent four years with the St. Theresa’s Thunder (GBSSA) in Midland, Ontario. He will be entering his second year with the Huronia Stallions (OFC). He is a two-time GBSSA champion in grade 10 and 11. He is interested in criminology.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
