The Red and White conclude the pre-season with a 2-0 record while the Roughriders are 0-2.
“I was pleased with the fact that our players got themselves ready to play,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. “They knew it was last dress rehearsal, the last chance to impress their coaches. I thought everyone got themselves ready to play to the best of their abilities and they played good football today.”
The Stamps had a big edge in the running game as they outgained the Roughriders 136-36.
“I was pleased that our offensive was able to give Joffrey (Reynolds) some room,” said Hufnagel. “Joffrey and Jon Cornish both ran the balls very well and found some holes on their own.”

The Stampeders scored on their opening possession of the afternoon as they marched the ball 61 yards on seven plays to get the ball into the end-zone. A 31-yard run by Reynolds set the Stamps up with a first-and-goal and Nik Lewis completed the march by hauling in a nine-yard pass from Henry Burris.

The Roughriders immediately responded on their next drive as Wes Cates’ five-yard rush and a convert tied the game at 7-7.

On the first play of the second quarter, the Stamps retook the lead thanks to a 40-yard field goal by Rob Maver. Calgary then extended its advantage as a scoring drive was capped by Burris’ 17-yard scoring pass to second-year receiver Jermaine Jackson.

The teams exchanged field goals — Luca Congi from 47 yards; Maver from 19 — to make the halftime score 20-10 for the home side.

Calgary had 258 yards of first-half offence while the Roughriders had 180, just seven of which came via the rush.

Early in the second half, Calgary’s Keon Raymond intercepted a Ryan Dinwiddie pass in Saskatchewan territory. That set up an eight-yard touchdown pass from Stamps newcomer Cody Pickett to rookie fullback Mike Cornell.

Pickett collected another scoring throw later in the third quarter when he connected with Ronald Keels from 21 yards out.

In the fourth period, a 58-yard punt return by Keels set up another Stampeders major. This time, it was rookie running back Rafael Little doing the scoring honours with a one-yard plunge.
The Roughriders got a late touchdown on a 21-yard catch by Cary Koch.
