Calgary Stampeders Add Gibson To Coaching Staff

Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Gibson as running backs coach.

Gibson has coached in the Canadian Football League for seven seasons, most recently as offensive co-odinator and running backs coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Prior to his two-season stint in Hamilton, he spent two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as assistant head coach and offensive line coach and a total of three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers two as the offensive co-ordinator and one as offensive line coach.

He also has extensive coaching experience in the U.S. college ranks, having started his career as a graduate assistant in 1978 at his alma mater, Western Maryland. He has also coached at Cornell, Boston University, Colgate, Rutgers and the University of Louisiana.

Mike is an accomplished and experienced coach who will be a tremendous asset to our staff and to our group of running backs, said Hufnagel.

I’m very excited about being here, said Gibson. This is a winning, successful organization with great leadership and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.

Gibson’s first taste of the CFL came in 1995 when he was a guest coach with the B.C. Lions. He was hired as Winnipeg’s offensive line coach in 2001, a season in which the Bombers went 14-4 and played in the Grey Cup game. He earned a Grey Cup ring as part of Saskatchewan’s coaching staff in 2007.
