Stallions Go 1-1 on Road Trip

The Huronia Stallions Varsity football team moved to 2-0 on the season with a hard fought 23-15 victory over the Sault Saint Marie Sabercats.

The Stallions achieved victory on the strength of an excellent defensive effort and a key blocked kick on special teams.  The Stallions defence managed to force six turnovers and had four quarterback sacks led by Christian Hutter-Coppin who had an interception and Spencer MacNamara who had a fumble recovery.

Linebacker Charlie Doering was the leading tackler and Defensive End Zach Kean had a stellar game with several key tackles while also doing a great job holding the edge and preventing broken containment.

The game was a close defensive battle with the score knotted at 9 early in the fourth quarter.  The Stallions finally got a big play when quarterback Justin Winn connected with wide receiver Jeremy Hussy on a 56 yard touchdown pass and catch.

The Sault scored with 6:15 remaining and had a chance to tie the game when the convert was blocked when several Stallions broke through the Sault line.

With 2:02 remaining the Stallions then stuffed the Sabercats on third and inches.  The Stallions took over on the Sault’s 29 yard line and quickly scored on a Zach Kuhn touchdown run to salt the victory.  The touchdown was Kuhn’s second of the day as he continued his impressive early season play.

The Stallions are back on the road this Saturday for a 2 pm kickoff in North Bay against the Nipissing Wild.

The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 48-8 defeat against the Sault Saint Marie Sabercats.

Running back Michael Cassano scored the lone touchdown and linebacker Clayton Mrazak was the top defensive player.

The JV Stallions will look to get back on track this Sunday at five pm against the Toronto Junior Argonauts.

The Stallions Bantam squad returns to action this Sunday in Toronto as well with an 11 am kickoff.
