St. Scholastica Saints came to Canada and conquered

The Saints, an NCAA Division III college squad from Duluth, Minn., downed a team of Manitoba Major Football League all-stars 31-9 on Sunday afternoon at Canad Inns Stadium in the second annual Can-Am Bowl.

The game used a hybrid of American and Canadian rules. The first half was played with 11 players a side, and the second half used 12 players on both sides of the line of scrimmage. The three-down rule was used for the entire game.

The Saints put on a kids camp prior to the game, and both teams gathered for a banquet on Saturday night.

“It’s a good, positive event,” MMFL president Laura Shea said.

The MMFL consists of six teams and is for players between the ages of 18 and 22.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
