St.FX X-Men add 14 recruits to football program

The St.FX X-Men recently announced 14 more players have committed to the football program.

TheΒ Β newest recruits come from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia and south of the border.Β  All players will join the team for the 2013 AUS season.

QUINTYNN PARSONS:

The 6’1, 165 pound receiver from Halifax, Nova Scotia joins the X-Men after a breakout campaign with the Halifax West Warriors of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).Β  This past season, Quintynn was awarded was awarded NSSAFFL Scotia Division Offensive MVP and Scotia Division Top Special Teams Player Awards.Β  Moreover, the Nova Scotia standout was selected to the Scotia Division first all-star team at the receiver position. He guided the Warriors to the NSSAFFL Tier 2 Championship title over the JL Ilsley Judges.

β€œQuintynn is a dynamic athlete who has great speed,” commented X-Men head coach Gary Waterman.Β  β€œWe are very excited to work with him.”

Alex O'Reilly

ALEX O’REILLY:

The 5’9, 180 receiver comes north of the border to continue his football career.Β  Alex, who is a native of Miami-Dade County, Florida, recently played for his high school team, Felix Varela Vipers.

β€œWe are excited to have Alex join our football team,” added Waterman.Β  β€œHe is an explosive playmaker who comes to us from Florida.”

β€œThe larger field and Canadian motion rules should play to his strengths.”

Nick Beale

NICK BEALE:

The 6’1, 185 pound receiver from Saint John, New Brunswick recently completed his high school career with Harbour View Vikings of the New Brunswick High School Football League (NSHSFL).Β  Nick has been selected as a league all-star two consecutive times (2011, 2012). Additionally, he represented his home province as a member of Team New Brunswick at the 2012 Football Canada Cup in London, Ontario.

β€œ”Nick was a member of 2012 Team New Brunswick,” said Waterman.Β  β€œHe is a physical receiver who is a two time high school division all-star.”

β€œHe also long snaps which will be a nice addition to our roster.”

Dante Djan

DANTE DJAN:

The 6’3, 215 pound quarterback from Calgary, Alberta comes to the X-Men after suiting up for the Henry Wisewood Warriors of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA).Β Β  This past season, Dante led the Warriors to the Division 1 Championship Final; however, the team lost to eventual champions, the Notre Dame Pride.

β€œDante is a tremendous athlete with a big arm,” commented Waterman.Β  β€œHe is very coachable and displays great leadership skills.”

β€œWe believe that if he puts in the hard work necessary and continues to improve he will be a very successful CIS quarterback. We are extremely excited to work with him.”

Brett Ferrari

BRETT FERRARI:

The 6’2, 205 pound defensive end from Wasaga Beach, Ontario recently completed his high school career with Collingwood Fighting Owls of the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA).Β  Moreover, he played for the Huronia Stallions of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

β€œBrett is another good player that has committed to us from the outstanding Stallions program,” added Waterman. Β Β β€œHe is a good young prospect and we are excited to work with him.”

NATE KELLAR:

The 6’2, 185 pound receiver from Kingston, Ontario joins the X-Men after playing high school football for the Holy Cross Crusaders of the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association (KASSAA).

β€œNate is a sure handed receiver with a bright upside,” said Waterman. β€œWe are very happy that he has chosen StFX.”

RYAN SIEGEL:

The 6’2, 190 pound receiver from Pembroke, Ontario recently suited up for the Fellowes Falcons of the Upper Ottawa Valley High School Athletic Association (UOVHSAA).

β€œRyan is an outstanding athlete who we are excited to work with,” added Waterman.

Mark Thomas 2

MARK THOMAS:

The 5’11, 170 pound defensive back from Mississauga, Ontario recently played for the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

“Mark has great cover skills and is a gifted athlete,” commented Waterman.Β  β€œHis past relationship with our defensive backs coach Gord Gallimore should make for a smooth transition to CIS football.”

JOHN TEWELDE:

The 6’2, 250 pound defensive lineman from Winnipeg, Manitoba recently completed a stint with the Winnipeg Rifles of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).Β  John also played high school football for the Dakota Lancers of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL).

β€œWe are excited to have John join our program because we know that he is a physical football player,” commented Waterman.Β  β€œWe look forward to working with him.”

AUSTIN WAITE:

The 6’3, 265 pound offensive lineman from Parksville, British Columbia completed his high school career with the Ballenas Whalers of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).

β€œIn getting Austin Waite we know that we are getting a hard working kid who is going to put in an honest effort,” said Waterman.Β  β€œWe look forward to watching him grow in our program.”

RYAN HOSEGOOD:

The 6’0, 185 pound quarterback from Winnipeg, Manitoba previously suited up for the Vincent Massey Vikings of the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL).

β€œRyan is a great kid and we are very excited to work with him,” added Waterman.Β  β€œHe has a high football I.Q. and tremendous work ethic.”

BRETT SCHULZ:

The 6’1, 265 pound defensive lineman recently played for the Winnipeg Rifles of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

β€œBrett is an aggressive football player who plays the game with passion,” commented Waterman.Β  β€œHis competitive spirit is a welcome addition to our team.”

RYAN MCGLADDERY:

The 5’10, 185 pound running back from London, Ontario joins the X-Men after completing his high school career with St. Thomas Aquinas Flames of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA).Β  Ryan has previously suited up for the London Falcons of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

β€œRyan is an explosive running back who has the unique combination of speed and power,” said Waterman.Β  β€œWe look forward to working with him at StFX.”

Keon Hughes

KEON HUGHES:

The 6’4, 205 pound receiver from Mississauga, Ontario previously played for CEGEP Division 1 team, the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars and the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). This past season, the Cougars earned a spot in the Bol D’Or championship game; however, lost to eventual champions the Vanier Cheetahs.
