Niagara Spears Varsity team traveled to Cambridge to play the Lions on Friday evening in OVFL action. Mid way through the first quarter the spears lined up for a punt in their own zone. The snap went over the punters head and the Lions recovered the ball on the Spear 25 yard line. A few plays later the Lions looked to have scored on a QB naked bootleg by number 10, Cory Prince. The play was called back on a holding penalty by the lions. The drive ended on a field goal by #85, Michael McKnight at 8:46 of quarter one.
Early in the second quarter the lions went ahead by a 10 to 0 score when running back #3, Josh Jamieson scampered 40 yards for a score that electrified the home crowd. Unfortunately for the home team the scoring and momentum went in the other direction.
With the home team leading 10 to 0 with 3:19 remaining in the half, the lions appeared to have picked off the spears deep in their end. But the play was nullified by a lion facemask penalty. The same drive saw the visitors score their first touchdown by #13, Devon Egerter, on a five yard outside run at 2:49. Kosta Krajisnik, #94, converted the touchdown. Krajisnik kicked a 1 point rouge on the ensuing kickoff.
Before the end of the first half, with 53 seconds remaining, Egerter scored his second TD, this time on a 18 yard pass reception. Halftime score 14 to 10 spears after unsuccessful 2 point try.
The second half saw both teams defences play exceptionally well. The only score of the second half was by the spears #86, Jake Harper, on a 30 yard pass reception. Krajisnik converted the TD. Final score 21 to 10 for Niagara.
