The Clan, who will play in the NCAA’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference this fall, announced Monday they’ve added Brent Barnes as the team’s full-time offensive coordinator and Jordan Malone as the new defensive coordinator.
Barnes is a graduate of Rice University. He started his coaching career as an assistant at Montclair State, where he also earned his Master’s degree in Physical Education. He’s also coached at the University of Redlands, Utica College and the University of Chicago. He was coordinating the passing game, wide receivers and special teams at Middlebury College before joining the Clan.
Malone is a former All-American defensive back at Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he also began his coaching career as a student assistant. He went on to working with the cornerbacks at Wayne State College before moving on to positions at Emporia State University, Waldorf and the University of Central Arkansas.
“I wanted to bring in guys who had NCAA and American college football experience,” said Clan head coach Dave Johnson, who recently signed a five-year extension himself. “I am very excited to be working with both of them as we tackle our newest challenge, the transition into the NCAA. ”
The Clan are moving back to American football after eight seasons in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s Canada West conference, where they won the title in 2003 and reached the Canada West Hardy Cup final in 2008. They had previously played in the U.S.-based NAIA from 1965-2001.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
