SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 2

Mitchell, Streveler and Masoli named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (June 26th, 2018) – Bo Levi Mitchell, Chris Streveler and Jeremiah Masoli were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 2 of the CFL’s 2018 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | BO LEVI MITCHELL | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell had a dominant game in Saturday’s 41-7 win over the Toronto Argonauts in a rematch of the 105th Grey Cup presented by Shaw.

The 2016 Most Outstanding Player collected 324 passing yards, going 20 for 22 and scoring three touchdowns.

Mitchell’s 90.9 completion percentage was the third-highest of all time in the CFL in single games with minimum 20 passes. Through two games, he has a 10.7 yards per attempt average.

The native of Katy, Texas engineered Calgary’s first touchdown with an impressive 70-yard, two-play drive on the Stampeders’ second possession of the game. Two long passes to Reggie Begelton and DaVaris Daniels (31 yards and 39 yards, respectively) put the Stampeders ahead.

Mitchell started the second quarter off strong on a long drive that culminated in an 18-yard pass to Eric Rogers for another touchdown. He found Rogers again in the third quarter with a 10-yard pass to put the Stamps ahead 27-1 after the successful convert. A 70-yard Mitchell pass to Don Jackson put the team in a position for another Calgary touchdown in the third quarter.

Last year Mitchell recorded 4700 passing yards, his third straight season with over 4500.

QB | CHRIS STREVELER | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Rookie quarterback Chris Streveler got his first career win with a resounding 56-10 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

Streveler racked up 246 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, going 22 for 28 and adding 98 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own.

After orchestrating a field goal, Streveler strung together a five-play, 56-yard drive that culminated in a lateral pass to Darvin Adams that was then thrown to Andrew Harris for a touchdown and a Winnipeg lead they never relinquished.

In the second quarter, Streveler added a passing touchdown with a 10-yard toss to Nic Demski in the end zone. He added another on the Blue Bombers’ next possession, throwing 16 yards to his college roommate Drew Wolitarsky for the major. In the final minutes he added one of his own with a one-yard quarterback sneak to put Winnipeg ahead 31-7 after the successful convert.

Streveler, fresh out of the University of South Dakota, set up several Justin Medlock field goals and another Wolitarsky touchdown before exiting the game for Bryan Bennett.

The Crystal Lake, Illinois native has 424 yards and six touchdowns in 2018.

Streveler was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award and earned the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year Award with the University of South Dakota Coyotes in 2017.

QB | JEREMIAH MASOLI | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Jeremiah Masoli put together an impressive performance in Hamilton’s 38-21 road win against Edmonton, throwing for over 300 yards for the second straight week.

Masoli’s 19 completions yielded three touchdowns and 332 yards in addition to his 59 rushing yards in Friday’s contest.

Hamilton’s first touchdown came on their very first possession as Masoli marched the team 73 yards in six plays. Luke Tasker caught a 15-yard pass and ran it in to give Hamilton the early lead.

Masoli put the Tiger-Cats in position for a Mercer Timmis rushing touchdown later in the first quarter. Another touchdown came in the second frame after Tasker capitalized on a 45-yard pass.

The third quarter saw Masoli throw 18 yards to Brandon Banks for the score to cap off a 10-play drive.

The former Ole Miss Rebel has 676 passing yards in two games. Masoli threw for 3177 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2017.
