Shaw CFL Top Performers (2): Ellingson, Davis and Thomas Erlington named

TORONTO — Greg Ellingson, Dominique Davis and Sean Thomas Erlington were named Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 2 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

In his second game in green and gold, Greg Ellingson had a standout game in the Eskimos’ 39-23 victory against the BC Lions.

The Florida International product recorded nine receptions for 174 yards and two touchdowns. The performance marked his 21st 100+ yard game in his seven-year career in the CFL.

His first major of the season came late in the first half on a quick three-yard strike from Trevor Harris which gave the Esks their first lead of the game, 19-17.

His second touchdown came on the final play of the third quarter after Harris slung a 54-yard pass to Ellingson to extend the lead to 33-23.

The Tampa, Fla., native now has 38 career receiving touchdowns. Through two games, Ellingson leads the league with 14 receptions and 240 receiving yards.

In his fourth career start, Ottawa REDBLACKS quarterback Dominique Davis set a number of personal bests en route to Ottawa defeating Saskatchewan 44-41 at TD Place.

Davis completed 30 of 39 passes (76.9%) for 354 yards and three touchdown passes while adding 43 yards on the ground.

The East Carolina alum found Dominique Rhymes late in the first quarter from 20-yards out which led to the REDBLACKS gaining the lead following a two-point covert, 8-7.

In the second quarter, Davis went play-action and found Jean-Christophe Beaulieu in the endzone for a 23-yard major after Ottawa forced a turnover on special teams while deep in Riders territory.

On the next possession, the REDBLACKS got a 42-yard punt return from Ryan Lankford which allowed Davis to spot Seth Coate down the sidelines for a 43-yard gain before finishing the drive with an 7-yard TD to RJ Harris.

In the game, Davis connected with seven different receivers. Through two games, the Lakeland, Fla., native has led the REDBLACKS to a 2-0 record while passing for 630 yards.

Sean Thomas Erlington racked up 165 all-purpose yards to spoil the Toronto Argonauts home opening game, 64-14.

The former Montreal Carabin carried the ball 12 times for 109 yards (9.1 yards per rush) while notching four rushes for 10+ yards, and one for 50+ yards.

The Montreal native also added three receptions for 56 yards, including this highlight reel catch that was good for a 37-yard pick up.
