Seven straight

OVFL:  Varsity Niagara Spears end regular season with seventh win in a row.

The varsity Niagara Spears won their seventh straight game by defeating the Oshawa Hawkeyes 28-0 in Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) action this past weekend.

Levar Lashington-Francis, Jurrell Gaddishaw, and Lekan Idowu scored majors for the Spears.  Gaddishaw’s tally was on a 27 yard run and had 81 rushing yards on eight carries in the win.

Spears quarterback Blair Robertson had 14 completions in 22 attempts for 150 passing yards and one passing touchdown (10 yards to Idowu).  Reid Robertson accumulated 45 receiving yards on four catches while Brandon Solanki chipped in with 38 receiving yards on three catches.  Kicker Michael Domagala was successful on a 38 yard field goal attempt.

Defensively for the victors, Adam Marchese caught two interceptions while Adam Evans had a fumble recovery.

As for the Hawkeyes, pivot Jack Hazlett had 6 completions in 16 attempts for 73 passing yards while Edwin Rivera Jr. registered 53 rushing yards on 14 carries.  Davian Reid Lynch and Clay Matthews-Lynch caught interceptions.  Moreover, Drue Moore and Niki Isovski had fumble recoveries in a losing cause.

A special ceremony was held to retire the jersey of Zach Duguay, son of Spears head coach Brian Duguay.  The entire Spears coaching staff wore No.68 patches during the game.

With their seventh consecutive win, the Spears ended their regular season with a 7-1 record.  The team will enjoy a first round bye and will host a second round playoff game.
