Coming off a championship run in 2016, this Seaquam Seahawk is expecting nothing short of another chance to do it all over again.

“One of my most memorable experiences is winning the provincial championship last year in 2016. I felt like it was a great representation of how hard our team worked and how well we overcame adversity,” said quarterback, Josh Haydu. He will have his work cut out for him, though, as the team will be moving up from AA to the AAA Western conference of the B.C high school football league and that is no joke! His competition week in and week out will be against numerous CFC50 ranked teams and a few others that are no slouches. Every week is going to be a grind.

“I’m looking forward to the upcoming football season because lots of people on my team are wanting to win back to back championships,” he commented.

While Haydu got into football because of his family and how important it is to them, that family passion has been transferred down to this young QB in a big way. Registering 2231 passing yards and 20 touchdowns in 2016 with the Seahawks, he also represented Team BC recently in the Football Canada Cup. He was also recently a member of the winning team in the U19 B.C. Football Flag title.

Being the general of the offense has it’s responsibilities, but Haydu isn’t shying away from those.

“I like my position at quarterback because it gives me a chance to be involved in every way play. When you play quarterback it makes you a leader on the field,” he said. “The edge I have as a football player is my willingness to always succeed, I will never give up and I think that is very important in the quarterback position.”

You can see when you watch his film that he doesn’t give up, while not wanting to leave the pocket too much, he isn’t afraid to use his feet to extend plays. He can make some difficult throws look easy and seems to have an understanding of when to sling it and when to place the ball. There are a few plays where he delivers the ball in spots where his receivers could catch it and usually ends up putting points on the board, all the while looking calm and composed.

This demeanor has been cultivated, according to Haydu, who uses Tom Brady of the NFL’s New England Patriots as a player that he model his game after.

“I model my game after Tom Brady because he has the utmost of confidence and poise. When Tom plays, it seems like nothing around him can effect him,” explained the young quarterback.

Going into his senior season, Haydu said the recruiting process has been good. He’s trying to stay focused on football, however, because he knows that this process will take care of itself. He doesn’t seem to have any reservations about making it to the next level and said his expectations as a freshman, once he steps onto campus with his new program, is to become a better and stronger football player that will gel with the team.

With football meaning “everything” to Haydu, his parents have helped to influence him towards this eventual goal. He goes on to say that they have also taught him the intangible life lessons that have allowed him to excel, such as morals and hard work.

“Without them I would never be able to succeed,” he said.

Coming from a family where football takes the main stage, Haydu said, “I base my daily life around football, everyday I try to become a better player.”
