Saskatchewan Huskies have bright future, says commits

The Huskies add two provincial commits and one out-of-province commit to their Class of 2018.

As the University of Saskatchewan Huskies gear up for the 2018 season, they will soon have receiver Berk Noble from Campbell Collegiate and defensive lineman Stefano Mandato from Centennial High School at their disposal.

Receiver Lachlan Horsley from Warman High School will also be joining the Huskies.

Berk Noble

When Berk Noble looks ahead at the Huskies possible future, he likes what he sees. β€œI committed because of the direction the team is going in. Their team, in the past couple of years, has only been a couple games away from making the Hardy Cup semis and finals, so I was really enticed to be able to be apart of a team like that,” he said.

β€œThe coaching staff is amazing. There is a crazy amount of CFL and U Sports experience among them, so they know what they are doing, and they can put together a team that could win a Hardy and Vanier Cup,” Noble added.

There is nothing quite like playing in front of a roaring crowd, and the fan support the Huskies have was an appealing factor for Noble. β€œThe team’s field and facilities are very nice. They always have lots of people coming to their games, so the games always have an intensity to them because of the fans,” he said.

The 6’2, 185lbs slotback is interested in taking engineering. He said the school’s engineering program is very good and will be able to help him after his football career concludes.

Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Noble has been playing the game for three years with the Campbell Collegiate Tartans (Regina High Schools Athletic Association). His team won the 4A Division provincial championships this year.

Stefano Mandato

Stefano Mandato had the opportunity to attend a Huskies game when the team played the Manitoba Bisons. When he observed how the coaches acted on the sidelines, he became excited. β€œThe passion I saw for the team was great. It’s what every player wants from a coach,” he said.

β€œI thought that they had an awesome coaching staff and I liked what Coach Floury was doing with the program and what he has done with it since he has come into the head coach position,” Mandato added.

Born in Vancouver but currently in Calgary, Mandato is ready to stamp his name on another western province. β€œI really liked the school when I went there,” he said. β€œI really liked the campus. It was gorgeous, and I found it cool that they have a castle look to it.”

Standing at 6’2, 230lbs, Mandato has played with the Centennial Coyotes (Calgary High School Athletic Association) and the Calgary Colts (Calgary Area Midgets Football Association). Last spring, the potential business student captured a Division 2 championship with the Colts.

Lachlan Horsley

Lachlan Horsley is from Warman, Saskatchewan, which is north-east of Saskatoon. In high school, the 5’11, 175lbs slotback and punter played with the Warman Wolverines (Saskatoon Secondary Schools Athletic Directorate).

The Huskies are proud to welcome Warman local, Lachlan Horsley to the Huskie family! #committothes #skhuskies
