Sabres Football Wraps up Spring Camp in Style

Your JV & Varsity Sabres completed their 2019 spring camps in preparation for the 2019 season.

The JV squad which had around 53 players try out the sport ended camp with 37 players, 19 of whom are in grade 8. This breaks a record of an incoming grade 9 class. They competed in a controlled practice with the Dakota Lancers on our home field and Coach Friesen was very proud of his troops. They competed in cross over drills, one on one’s, and a team session to end the day. It was a great learning experience and a great ending to a very productive camp.

The Varsity squad travelled to Sisler to take on the Spartans in an exhibition contest. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead on a 75 yard QB Scamper to for six. The Sabres rallied with 3 straight TD’s to take a 21-7 lead at the half. Isaac Dokken rushed for 2 TD’s and Sawyer Thiessen connected with Amin Peter on a 35 yard TD pass. The Spartans pushed back in the 2nd half to make the score 21-21. Late in the 4th quarter Sawyer Thiessen put the Sabres up for good with a 24 yard rushing TD. The game was sealed by the defense with a big sack on 2nd down by rookie Jacob Penner.

Both teams are back in action for main camp on August 24 to begin training for the fall season.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
