Halton Tier 1:  Lords spoil home opener for Longhorns

The Nelson Lords defeated the Corpus Christi Longhorns 14-5 in their HSSAA Season Opener on Friday.

After extreme heat all week the game was played in cold, windy, late November like weather. Nelson grabbed an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Tyson Delic to Drake Bowie.

Nelson and Corpus Christi would exchange conceded safeties and head to the half with the Lords up 9-2.

Corpus would concede another safety and add a field goal to cut the Nelson lead to 11-5.

A 40-yard field goal from Adam Preocanin would increase the Lords lead to 14-5 late in the 4th quarter. After some tense moments late in the game, Aaron Vandeweerd played the hero intercepting the Longhorns last pass attempt and sealing the win for Nelson.

Up net for Nelson, the team will welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish into Nelson Stadium for a 7:00pm floodlight game in Week 2 on Friday September 20th.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
