Reigning AUS Champions announce addition of eight players to 2013 recruiting class

The reigning AUS Champions have added eight more players to their 2013 recruiting class.

The Acadia Axemen has announced the commitments of players spanning from Nova Scotia to Ontario, the Prairies, the West Coast and from south of the border.

Here are the newest additions to the Axemen football program:

JESIAH HATHAWAY:

The 6’6, 300 pound defensive lineman from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia joins the Axemen after a successful high school career with the Cole Harbour Cavaliers of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).  This past season, the league selected Jesiah as a Scotia Division first team all-star at the offensive lineman position.  In 2011, he was also selected as a Scotia Division second team all-star at the defensive lineman position.  In July 2012, Jesiah represented his home province at the 2012 Football Canada Cup as a member of Team Nova Scotia.

At the tournament, the Axemen were impressed with what he brought to the field.  The team is looking forward to this newest addition.

“Jesiah had a great showing at the Football Canada Cup this past summer where his size and play grabbed the attention of many coaches,” commented Axemen offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chris Judd.  “We are excited that he chose to join the Axemen Family and look forward to seeing him in camp.”

Commits Alexandre Dodier

ALEXANDRE DODIER:

The 6’4, 250 pound offensive lineman from Montreal, Quebec recently completed a stint with CEGEP’s Champlain St. Lambert Cavaliers.

“We are glad to call the Alex a member of the Acadia Axeman Family,” added Judd.  “He will bring plenty of experience, size and a mean streak to the table come fall and we are looking forward to working with him for the next 4-5 years.”

ANDREW WILSON:

The 6’0, 215 pound fullback/linebacker from Calgary, Alberta recently played for Centennial Coyotes of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA).

“Andrew will be following the footsteps of his former high school coach Garth Melrose as he comes out East this fall,” explained Judd.  “Andrew has good size and strength, is a relentless worker and is extremely coachable, all of which make him a fantastic addition to the Axemen Family!”

Commits Taylor Barclay

TAYLOR BARCLAY:

The 5’11, 215 pound linebacker from Tottenham, Ontario comes to the Axemen after suiting up for the Ottawa Sooners of the Ontario Football Conference in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).  Taylor has also played for the TNT Express.

“Taylor is the latest Banting player to call Acadia home after playing last season for the Ottawa Sooners,” said Judd.  “He brings with him a workman like mentality and will use his experience to compete early in his career.”

“We are happy to call him an Axeman.”

TANNER COOK:

The 6’2, 235 fullback from Moosomin, Saskatchewan played high school football for McNaughton.  Moreover, Tanner did a stint with the Moosomin Generals.

“Tanner decided to call Acadia home after a visit with us earlier this month,” added Judd.  “He is a big, physical and raw athlete who has a background in competitive downhill skiing and has only played football for a couple of seasons.”

“We are excited to see what Tanner can bring to the table.”

RICARDO MARTINS:

The 6’2, 265 offensive lineman comes north of the border to continue his football career.  A native of Brazil, Ricardo joins the Axemen after finishing his high school career with the St Thomas More Chancellors.

“Ricardo is naturally very strong and plays the game with a noticeable mean streak,” commented Judd.  “His aggressive style should be a nice fit without running style.”

“We are looking forward to seeing him on the field in August.”

BEN WALLACE:

The 6’3, 190 pound defensive end from Regina, Saskatchewan comes to the AUS champions bolstered with winning experience.  Ben comes on the heels of winning a high school championship title with the Dr. Martin LeBoldus Golden Suns this past fall. In July, 2012, he represented his home province as a member of Team Saskatchewan at the Football Canada Cup tournament in London, Ontario.

“Ben will be dressing up in Acadia red this fall after a very successful career at LeBoldus High which included being crowned the 2012 Provincial Champions,” said Judd.  “Ben is athletic and plays with a non-stop motor, both of which are fantastic additions to his 6’3 frame.”

“We are looking forward to seeing Ben compete this fall.”

SHELDON MCDONALD:

The 6’1, 220 pound linebacker/long snapper from Kelowna, British Columbia recently played for the Okanagan Sun of the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

“Another athlete with a background in multiple sports, Sheldon is a very good athlete who has the motor and skill to be competitive early,” added Judd.  “He is pretty raw in terms of football, but we are confident that his size and speed with make him a handful for opponents early in his career.”

“We are excited to call Sheldon a member of our Family.”
