REC Bennett Stusek hoping to end high school career on top

Heading into his senior season, REC Bennett Stusek will look to end off his high school career on top. Stusek stars as a slotback on the CFC50 ranked Campbell Tartans in Regina, Saskatchewan (RIFL). The Tartans are coming off a down year, losing in the league semi-finals and will look to rebound and return to the Schwann Conference Championship.

During his junior year, Bennett was an extremely versatile player for the Tartans. Stusek lined up at his natural position of receiver, as well as at quarterback during 2016, allowing Bennett the time and space to work with the football. Stusek racked up 1370 all-purpose yards last season, and will once again be the key force on the offensive side of the ball for the Tartans in 2017.

The Tartans standout receiver will undoubtedly be faced with a difficult decision come the spring of 2018, and his list of potential programs will run deep. Stusek lists the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and University of Regina Rams as schools he will be considering. However, Bennett notes “there’s just a lot of time and I’m taking my time with the process”.

While he says recruiting process has been hectic, he’s been having fun with it. Stusek plans to pursue a career in business like his dad. Bennett’s father Jeff has coached him at different levels in his career and lists him as one of the most influential people in his football life and is the reason he got into the game.

Bennett mentions his grade 10 year in which he suited up along side his brother, along with his dad helping out on the sidelines. Jeff currently serves as a receivers coach for the University of Regina and I’m sure he doesn’t hate the concept of Bennett joining his rotation when 2018 rolls around.

Stusek has represented Team Saskatchewan at the 2016 and 2017 Canada Cup’s and played a prominent role both years. Bennett capped off his career with the U18 Team Saskatchewan with his second straight silver medal this July in Nova Scotia. The receiver was instrumental in Saskatchewan’s semi final victory over Ontario, reeling in 6 catches for 75 yards including a fourth quarter touchdown to put Sask ahead. While the result ultimately wasn’t what Stusek was hoping for, it’s another impressive accomplishment to add to his large and quickly growing list of accomplishments.

Bennett also lined up for U17 Team Saskatchewan in the winter of 2017 as they made the trip down to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. While the squad came up short, Stusek was able to be apart of history as this was the first Saskatchewan group to compete at the International Bowl.

When watching the receiver’s film, his supreme talent is evident. He has excellent vision and possesses the agility and quickness to find that open space on the field. Bennett is an exceptional playmaker, who is more than capable of busting out a big time play each time he touches the ball.

It’s clear how much football means to the Stusek’s and Bennett is no different. Heading into his senior year, Bennett will aim towards end Leboldus’ reign on top and add a couple more accomplishments to his deep resume. Stusek will look to win a city and provincial title for the Tartans for the first time since 2010.
