RB Meronyk can accomplish anything through work ethic

Colton Meronyk first took to the gridiron in the eighth grade as a member of the St. Albert Furry, then the St. Albert Storm before graduating to his current high school team, the Bellerose Bulldogs. The 5-foot-11 senior plays multiple positions including safety, outside linebacker, and halfback; hoever, Meronyk’s primary position is at running back where he’s had much success.

“I’ve received rookie of the year my first year ever playing football in grade 8, then defensive MVP the next year as a bantam team vet, then rookie of the year for varsity in grade 11.”

With regards to Melnoryk’s most favourite highlight from last season, the class of 2017 graduate vividly recalls his team crashing the homecoming party against Jasper Place in a much needed and deserved victory.

“My best memory from last season was definitely the jasper place homecoming game. It was a 2:30pm game so it was pretty cool and to see and hear their band and all their fans. I like it because we won and it was well deserved. It was a real tight score all the way to the end and we won by only two points.”

With his final high school season already under way, Meronyk has yet to commit to any one program as of yet. The current plan for the 172-pound runningback is to attend university and play football while pursuing an Arts major. As for now, Melnoryk is keeping his options open

“The recruitment process has been great but also stressful at times. I’ve had interest from multiple cis schools like UofA, UofM, STFX etc. I haven’t committed but I plan onto soon, I haven’t been on any official visits either. I’ve also had some NCAA interest as well like from Franklin Pierce university also Simon Fraser university which are both division 2 ball.”

Meronyk is a hard working young man with unmatched work ethic which has enabled him to experience much success on the football field. The 5’11 running back credits his mother and head coach for playing such an integral role in his development as a young man and as a football player.

“My most influential people in my life would be my mother for being there for me throughout everything and the recruiting process as well as my head coach, he’s like a father figure to me and I respect him.”

Meronyk would like to inform any schools, coaches and perhaps naysayers that he will not stop until he get’s what he wants, which he believe he’ll definitely acquire through his work ethic. In the pursuit of his dreams, Meronyk is working to improve his explosiveness by incorporating Olympic lifts in his workout regimen.

“My coach gives all the guys on the team workouts separated by skill level, and position and whether or not it’s early in season, mid or the end.”
