Raymond’s QB Boomer Heggie ….here comes the BOOM!

Boomer Heggie won’t show up on the field in just one position. At 5’11 and 160lbs, he has been known to play up to four positions for the Raymond High School Comets. These positions include quarterback, kicker, free safety and slot. The Comets finished 6-2 this season and were ranked on the #CFC50 list at number 22. They lost against the No. 9 St. Francis Browns in the Alberta regional semi-finals this year.

Boomer, who has been playing football for the past 8 years, says that football is a way to escape everyday life and have fun.

“Football is an escape from the regular everyday life, it let’s you get away and just have a fun time.”

One of Boomers favorite things about playing his many positions on the field is that he has the ability to have an impact on every play, which he thinks is great.

“Just knowing that you are contributing to the best of your ability and controlling lots of the tempo.”

As for game day, his favorite pregame meal is an egg, bacon and sausage sandwich. While listening to lots of instrumentals and motivational speaking videos along with Spotify football playlists, he shows up to the field early to throw. But not before taking a short nap a few hours before kick off.

He can’t name a specific professional player that he tries to model his play from. Instead he enjoys watching them all.

“There aren’t any specific players I try to mimic, but I do love watching any game that’s on and learning from their play makers.”

For now, Boomer has a support system in place to continually assist him in pursuing greatness on the field and off. The most influential people in his life now are his coaches.

“All my coaches, they have set a great example for me and always push me to my limit. Also the players that I grew up watching. I always wanted to be just like them.”

Currently, Boomer says he has no plans for football following graduation. If he were to play after high school though, he says, “I think I would adjust pretty good. I’ve played underage in almost everything I’ve played since I started sports, so I’m used to adjust to a faster paced game.”

During the off season Boomer can be found studying game films and working on improving his game play. He says one thing he strives to do is to make himself a better athlete.
