Ravens score 73 points in opener


Tarrence Crawford scored two rushing as the Essex Ravens defeated the Brantford Bisons 73-13 in their Ontario Varsity Football League opener Saturday at Raider Field at Essex high school.

Austin Kennedy was 4-for-4 in passing for 102 yards and three touchdowns and Josh Deehan was 3-for-3 in passing for 48 yards and two touchdowns.

Also scoring touchdowns were Darnell Walcott (five-yard rush) and Conner Kentner (one-yard rush), Kevin Silveyra (47-yard catch), Thaddeus Stewart (40-yard catch), Dylan Whitfield (12-yard catch), Joe Fab-ishak (20-yard catch) and Kyle Miller (15-year catch).

Matt Paonessa kicked a 37-yard field goal and recorded all extra points.

In the junior game Saturday, the Ravens lost 23-0 to Brantford.

The peewee Ravens also lost their home opener 8-1 to Toronto.

Marquise Thompson kicked a 24-yard single for Essex’s only point.

The senior and junior Rav-ens are at Niagara Saturday while the peewee Ravens visit the Metro Toronto Wildcats.
