Ravens’ quarterback Rose wins City TV’s Athlete of the Week

For the Week of November 9, 2015, City News announced their Athlete of the Week would be St. Roch Ravens’ quarterback Deandre Rose.Ā  The long-standing feature is awarded to student athletes around the Greater Toronto Area who exemplify extraordinary skill and ability in their respective sport.

Deandre was nominated for the award by his two co-main head coaches for the St Roch Ravens Jonathan Beresford and Neil Majoros.Ā  “Coach told me the day of they shot the feature that City TV is coming to interview me for Athlete of the Week, so it came as kind of a shock to me,” recalls Rose.

For all the hard work Deandre has dedicated to the game of football, he is quite glad that others in the Greater Toronto Area are taking notice.Ā  “It’s an amazing feeling to be able to be on TV.Ā  I always wanted to be on TV where I am able to showcase my skills,” says Deandre.

With all the excitement of having a feature about Rose’s football acumen, his family and friends took more joy out of this moment than Rose himself.Ā  “They were more excited than I even was,” says Deandre.Ā  “I had a whole bunch of relatives call me telling me congratulations and how happy they were for me.Ā  For some of my family, it was a shock to them because they didn’t know I played football that good.”Ā  This experience has left Deandre humbled and is grateful to his coaches to helping him achieve a consistent high level of play.

Rose has produced a tremendous 2015 campaign for his Ravens.Ā  Aside from guiding the Ravens to 5-0 record in regular season play, the Brampton native has thrown for 10 touchdowns, scored two rushing touchdowns and has the Ravens widely recognized as one of the best high school teams in the nation.

As of right now, Rose and the Ravens have their sights set on their first playoff game of 2015 after they earned a bye in the first round with a first place finish in ROPSSAA North.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
