Rams and O.J. Atogwe Split, Four Teams Reportedly Interested

The St. Louis Rams and safety O.J. Atogwe have officially parted ways.

The separation came when the clock struck midnight ET on Wednesday. Instead of re-issuing a tender at 110% of his 2009 salary, which would have been nearly $7 million, the Rams decided to let last year’s franchise player walk away.

The move hardly comes as a surprise with St. Louis tendering Atogwe at the lowest possible level.

Still, the Rams tried to reach a new deal with their star defensive back before the witching hour according to Howard Balzer of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.

In the end, it appears he wanted to hit the free agent market to see what was available.

The Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins are among the teams rumored to be interested in his services. The Philadelphia Eagles, who were previously thought to be in the running, will not be going after Atogwe.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
