Raiders announce Conn as head coach, Hocking returns as Defensive Coordinator

The V.I. Raiders are excited to announce that Jeremy Conn has been named the fourth Head Coach in franchise history.

Conn joins the Raiders after 8 seasons as the Head Coach of the Ballenas Whalers High School football program. Conn has been a football coach for 20 years, starting with Football Nanaimo and the Barsby Bulldogs on the island, before coaching on the mainland with Simon Fraser University and the CJFL’s Valley Huskers and Tri-City Bulldogs. Prior to joining Ballenas, Coach Conn was the Head Coach of the West Vancouver Highlanders. Conn is a level 3 certified coach.

Coach Conn lives in Nanaimo with his wife, Tamara, and their two daughters, Gabriela and Celeste.

Nanaimo, B.C. – The V.I. Raiders are excited to announce the latest addition to their coaching staff for the 2015 season. Doug Hocking will be back with the team in the role of Defensive Coordinator.

Hocking was a part of all three Raiders National Championship wins, in 2006, 2008 and 2009 as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Before joining the Raiders in 2006, Hocking was the Defensive Coordinator with the CJFL’s Winnipeg Rifles from 2003 to 2006.

After his time with the Raiders, Hocking joined the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds as a Linebacker Coach.

Over his 12 year CFL career, Hocking played for the B.C. Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, winning a Grey Cup with the Lions in 1994.
