Quinlan signs with Alouettes

Kyle Quinlan will find himself in familiar territory when training camps open around the Canadian Football League in June.

Quinlan confirmed on Thursday night that he has signed a contract with the Montreal Alouettes, the team that invited him to camp this past summer. The Marauders’ record-breaking quarterback completed two passes for a total of 45 yards over the course of the CFL’s preseason schedule.

Quinlan was pleased to be returning to an environment he knows and enjoys.

β€œI’m definitely excited to have an opportunity to keep playing football,” said the quarterback. β€œI’m glad it’s in Montreal, because in my short time with the Alouettes last year it was such a positive experience. I just have such a high regard for the coaches and players there. The whole organization is first-rate.”

Montreal General Manager Jim Popp discussed Quinlan’s signing on AM900 CHML’s The Sports Lounge with Scott Radley. Popp indicated that the Marauder had impressed the Alouettes in his limited time with the team and his subsequent return to the CIS.

β€œHe’s an intelligent young man with great arm strength and great poise,” said Popp. β€œHe knows the Canadian game and he’s proven that at the CIS level.

β€œWhen he came to our camp he handled himself fantastically. He didn’t get a lot of reps, but when he stepped into a game, he performed. When he had so little time to perform like that and then jumped back into the CIS season the way he did, he warrants a chance and we want to give it to him.”

The native of South Woodslee, Ontario won the Hec Crighton Trophy as the most outstanding player in CIS play this past season, after leading the Marauders to a CIS-record 21 consecutive wins and breaking McMaster school records for completions, passing yards and touchdowns in a single season.
