QUFL television schedule announced

Montreal, February 9, 2010 – The Quebec Student Sport Federation (QSSF) and the French television service of the CBC, la Société Radio-Canada (SRC), are pleased to announce their broadcast schedule for the 2010 Quebec University Football League (QUFL) season.

Radio-Canada will present a total of 14 games this season including nine (9) from the QUFL regular season, one conference semi-final game, the Dunsmore Cup championship, both Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) semi-final bowl games and culminates with the 2010 Desjardins Vanier Cup at PEPS Stadium on the campus of Université Laval on November 27.

“We are extremely satisfied with the record setting television ratings that the QUFL received during our first season on Radio-Canada,” said QSSF director of university programs Patricia Demers. “Fans from coast-to-coast in Canada were exposed to the quality of the QUFL every week and we are very happy to continue our partnership with Radio-Canada for a second season.”

Quebec collegiate football also benefited from the partnership with the SRC, as highlights from the AAA Bol d’or were broadcast during the Dunsmore Cup championship game.

“Last season, 290 000 viewers watched the Dunsmore Cup and another 325 000 watched the national semi-final game involving the Laval Rouge et Or,” noted François Messier, sports director at Radio-Canada. “It is an indication of the popularity of our brand of university football that stretches well beyond the hotbeds of Quebec City, Montreal and the Eastern Townships. Radio-Canada is proud of its involvement in helping to increase the popularity of the sport by bringing games to fans from across the country “

Each team will appear a minimum of two times on Radio-Canada, with at least one game being on home turf. Some of the highlights in this year’s schedule include the renewal of the Quebec-Montreal gridiron rivalry when the Carabins de Montréal take on the Rouge et Or on October 9. Not to be outdone, the Battle of the Eastern Townships takes centre-stage when the Bishop’s Gaiters host the Sherbrooke Vert & Or on October 23.

Radio-Canada will be heading to the East Coast on September 18th for this year’s lone inter-conference telecast when the Laval Rouge et Or travel to Halifax to face the Saint Mary’s University Huskies.

This year’s broadcast schedule provides Radio-Canada and the QUFL greater flexibility for the selection of the final regular season telecast in week 9 as the two partners will determine which game will be televised in the days leading up to the contest. This flexibility will allow SRC to present fans with a game that has the greatest potential impact on the post-season.

Play-by-play man Jean St-Onge and analyst Jacques Dussault return to the booth for their second season behind the microphones calling QUFL games on Radio-Canada, and will be joined by sideline reporter Antoine Deshaies who also returns a second year.

Pierre Durivage of Rivage Communications will head up the production of QUFL games, working in collaboration with the talented technical crew of Radio-Canada to present the games.

All QUFL on Radio-Canada broadcasts will available on Sports Extra, Sirius Satellite radio channel 96 as well as via webcast at www.Radio-Canada.ca/sports.
